Transferable skills seminar - From Theory to Practice: Positionality & Active Reflexivity in Research
9th December, 13:00-16:00, room Together, The Core, UZ campus
This seminar invites PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, ZAP members, data collectors, and all other interested persons to explore and critically reflect on the concept of positionality in research—that is, who we are, the contexts we work in, the relationships we build, and the methodological choices we make together shape the research process and its outcomes.
We are honored to welcome Prof. Sarojini Nadar, a renowned critical feminist scholar whose work on social justice, reflexivity, and research methodology has inspired scholars across disciplines. She will speak to the theoretical and methodological importance of positionality and reflexivity and offer provocations relevant to health sciences and beyond.
Importantly, this seminar is not only for qualitative researchers—positionality and reflexivity concern all who engage in research. Following Prof. Nadar’s talk, participants will take part in a collaborative reflection session, considering how various aspects of their own positionality shape their research practices. Rather than seeking definitive answers, the seminar aims to open up a shared space for critical inquiry and dialogue, encouraging participants to reimagine what reflexivity can mean across diverse research contexts, and to consider how research practices might become more reflexive, context-sensitive, and responsive to the worlds they engage with.
Register here; as always, sandwich lunch is provided.
